Solitude

The ripples assured me of its attendance
A wild mallard paddling from out the boardwalk
With a lone shadow to trail on the tide, like my own shadow
That lies on the concrete behind my heel
I gazed and thought
This single duck resembles my lonesome statue
Resting on a wooden bench along the Hudson Bay
Where the beating hearts of lovers,
Absorb the scenery in a mirthful union.
I sat alone with only this reflection as my companion

But life I still enjoy in solitude
Though nature know what’s best for man
A woman is in need as well as a little time without them
For the absentee of all things that brings enjoyment is sound
I saw that nothing refills the heart more
Then the return presence of a loved one.
